There are two kinds of people in this world; night owls and morning birds. For me, I have always been a night owl, and for people like me you know we can stay up until wee hours of the morning. That’s great and all until you become an adult and are forced to start your day in a timely manner. I have been trying my hardest to start waking up earlier and actually become a good morning person! I’m going to share 5 tips with you that I have been using to help me.
Before I share the tips on as to how I’m becoming a morning person, I’ll share with you reasons as to why you should too.
- The opportunity to do your best at something that matters. You won’t be tired from a whole day.
- The quietness in which to reflect, plan, and hope for a day that exceeds expectations.
- The calmness that is free of unfinished work from a busy day.
- The option to examine any stress or emotion before the start of a long day.
Now, onto the tips.
TIP 1: ADJUST YOUR SLEEP SCHEDULE
You can’t expect to wake up earlier if you’re going to bed at 1-2am. Start off by trying to go to bed 15-30 minutes earlier each week until you reached your desired time. It takes 30 days to form a habit, so stick with it mister!
TIP 2: STOP HITTING SNOOZE
You’ll ever get anywhere if you’re tapping the snooze button every time your alarm goes off. Whether you use your phone or an actual alarm clock, try sitting it across the room. If you do that, when the alarm goes off you’ll have to get up and walk over to it. That alone will help you wake up. Also, if you’re a coffee person like me set your coffee pot to brew 20 minutes before you wake up. Smelling fresh coffee as you’re waking up will help a ton!
TIP 3: START WITH SOMETHING YOU LOVE
After you grab your coffee or whatever you like to drink in the morning, start doing something you love. Whether that’s just sitting and enjoying your drink with a book, or going to the gym, or even catching up on your favorite TV show. Just make sure you do it first thing in the morning, that way you’ll look forward to it and not want to sleep in.
TIP 4: CREATE A ROUTINE
Personally I love having a routine. So sit down and think about what your perfect morning routine is. Make a list of everything you would like to get done before officially starting your day. Now if you don’t have enough time, prioritize. You don’t need to become superhuman all in one morning. Now you have a routine, great!
TIP 5: BE CONSISTENT AND STICK TO IT
This is the biggest thing, and I can’t stress this enough; BE CONSISTENT!! Go to sleep and wake up at the same time. Every. Single. Day. Yes that includes weekends too. Like I said earlier, it takes 30 days to form a habit. Don’t give up on being a morning person, because if I can do it seriously anyone can!
I hope you enjoyed reading my tips. I’m still working on becoming a good morning person myself. Have any more helpful tips? Let me know in the comments!
