How To Get Out Of A Funk

We all have these days where we feel just off and in a funk right? Here are ways to help you get out of a funk today!

We all have hard times. Whether you’re feeling sad, discouraged, stuck, or just in a weird funk… We’ve all been there. Especially me, yesterday specifically. I just woke up feeling off. Not right. I could tell as soon as I opened my eyes that I was just in a weird spot. Not a specific reason as to why or what caused it. … (I’m not the only one, right? lol) All day I just couldn’t shake it, but let’s be real – I didn’t actually try to. I just succumbed to my funk and just that was that, all day long. It was horrible.

So when I woke up today I decided that today would be different. I would not allow myself to get like that again. As much as we don’t like to admit it, we control our mood 100%. Not one thing or person can put you in “a bad mood” – you can only do that to yourself. That’s actually one thing my boss taught me. It’s funny because he treats me like one of his kids, so I always get these life lectures from him. I’ll never admit it to him, but I’m completely grateful; dude actually knows what he’s talking about. Anywho, back to my funkiness I decided to put together a list of things that make me happy, and a few things that could help you if you ever find yourself in a funk too!

Things That Make Me Happy:

1. Books!

2. Being outdoors

3. My younger siblings – I have a little sister & two little brothers

4. COFFEE & books

5. Getting shit done – let me tell you, I’m ecstatic when I get everything I need to done

6. Positive thinking

7. Wine

8. Exercise

Those are just a few of the main things that bring me happiness. Notice that I said books twice? Yeah, that wasn’t a mistake. I love books and reading. I have since I was just a little girl. Books have become like my second lifeline, haha! No, but really, I good book can always change my mood. If I’m feeling down, or just not myself I’ll grab one of my favorite (more than likely a Stephen King), or a positive thinking book. Words are such a powerful thing really. There are SO MANY amazing positive thinking books out there. They really do help.

Now that you know a few of the things that make me happy, here are some things you can do to boost your mood and hopefully get you out of your funk too!

Think positive – a positive mind is key. I know it’s hard when you’re feeling out of sorts but just remember “Positive mind = Positive vibes” If you base yourself around positivity, you really can’t go wrong.

Here are ways to help you get out of a funk today!

Fresh air – I always love to get fresh air when I can, whether that just being opening a window or actually being out. Right now where I am the weather has been snowy/rainy & gloomy, yuck!

Be productive – the more you get done, the more you feel accomplished.

Exercise – working out is my go-to for when I’m feeling out of sorts. The endorphins that are released during exercise make you feel really good. I’m talking the “holy shit, why don’t I do this everyday kinda good”. Experts actually compare endorphins to opiates because they deliver such intense pleasure, says psychologist Elizabeth Lombardo, Ph.D., M.S., author of A Happy You: Your Ultimate Prescription for Happiness.

Those are just a few things that could help you feel better. Sometimes nothing at all works, and while that sucks it’s completely okay. Try talking to someone. If there’s actually something weighing in your mind, just let it out. It’s never good to hold anything in. Talk to someone, or start writing in a journal. Whatever you do, just make sure it’s for you and that you’re happy. That’s all that matters! 🙂
